 This is a collection of itineraries that can be done as  return excursions or  combined for overnight or weekend trips for families and small groups.  

A.  CENTRAL REGION  -

A two and a half hour drive from Accra in a westerly direction will take you to the legendary Central Region where you can visit

1. UNESCO’s  World Heritage Monuments of the Central Region the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles with a  panoramic view of the historic township of Elmina and its traditional fishing habour sporting a colourful array of hand-dug out canoes with fishermen landing their catch at various times of the day.
 
Kakum Forest2.  Kakum Forest & Canopy  Walkway
A remarkable encounter with nature in the Kakum Forest with its tree top canopy walkway, offering a thrilling experience of a walk along high places of the earth – exciting Kakum Canopy Walkway – a series of rope bridge suspended along tree tops, 30 – 40 metres above the ground.

 

B. WESTERN REGION   Driving further west from Central Region takes you to the treasures of  the Western Region

Nzulezu Village1.NZULEZU  village on stilts West of Takoradi and  north of Beyin . Nzulezo and Kojokuma are the only water villages in Ghana built wholly on stilts on an open lake( Lake Tandani ) fed by two rivers

Ankasa Forest2.ANKASA FOREST RESERVE
Approximately 130km from Takoradi  home to over 80 mammal species (not easily sighted ) over 600 diverse butterfly  species. Trails around the Gate and Camp Nkwanta  and near the Bamboo Cathedral (8Km into the Park)

3 .DOMANA ROCK SHRINE
 “Bosom Kese: (great god) is a huge rock stacked on top of three rocks and forming a shelter of nearly three storeys. Visit involves a hike through a bit of forest, traditional hamlets and farms.

Busua Beach4. Busua Beach Resort  
Some kilometers off the Takoradi- Tarkwa road a serene and ideal setting for family weekend getaways or a base for visiting the attractions of the Central and Western  Region




C.  EASTERN REGION  -  A little over an hour's drive  from Accra in an easterly direction will take you to the
Aburi Gardens1.  Aburi Gardens
tour  the over – a century old botanical garden and its well manicured lawns and stately trees planted by visiting dignitaries.  Enjoy the green peace and tonic climate far from the hustle and bustle of  city life

2. Akosombo Dam & Volta Lake pleasures
A visit to the stone-faced  Akosombo dam and Hydroelectric Plant and a delightful Sunday cruise on the "MV DODI PRINCESS "to the Dodi Islands, one of the many little islands in the majestic Volta lake  

D.  VOLTA REGION   Driving further east takes you to the Volta Region and its ecological treasures

Wli Water Falls

1.Wli falls-From Hohoe, almost at the border of the Republic of Togo,   a 30 minute exciting trek from the village of Wli  through a forest takes you  to the spectacular Wli waterfalls

2.Tagbo Falls near Liati Wote flowing from the Ghana-Togo mountain range  covered by rich vegetation bordered  by cave forming  rocks.  

Mona3. Tafi- Atome monkey village sanctuary situated  along the Accra –Hohoe road ,home to endangered species of the Mona monkey family, considered sacred by the community and allowed free rein within the village . The monkeys  are usually  sighted earliy  in the morning and  late afternoon

 

 

E.  ASHANTI REGION  A four hour drive northwards  from Accra  takes you toAsante- the seat of ancient kingdoms fabled in fiction ,myths,legends and famed  indigenous art, fascinating cultural expresions and phenomena.

1. Visit to the Obuasi Gold Mines -under ground mine tour available

Manhyia2. Manhyia Palace –  official residence of Asantehenes since 1926. with its royal palace museum of Asante history.  visit  Centre for National Culture King Prempeh 11 Musuem

Bonwire3. The three famousindigenous  craft villages of Bonwire ( kente weaving ) Ntonso (adinkra hand stamped cloth)  Ahwia ( stool carving and wooden fertility doll)
